Media Trust: Telling Your Stories

The Trust has a long and extremely productive relationship with communications experts, the Media Trust, who were established in 1994 to support charities to reach and engage new audiences. Media Trust provides charities with training, film production, news distribution and volunteers from the media industry.

Media Trust has been delivering the Telling Your Stories project on our behalf for a number of years.  Each year, the project offers a cohort of the charitable projects we fund with the opportunity to have a short film made about their work by professional filmmakers.  The selected organisations develop their production experience through their involvement with the process and the shadowing of their allocated filmmaker. Media Trust also host an introductory workshop with all of the grantees involved to give training in what makes a good charity film and good practice within the filmmaking process.

The three minute films which result are of an exceptionally high-standard and can be used to promote the charities mission and for City Bridge Trust to use as Case Studies of the work that we fund. The Media Trust and City Bridge Trust work closely to promote the finished films – in previous years’ they have been shown on the Media Trust’s Freeview and satellite TV station the Community Channel, and we have also held special one-off screenings of the films at the Barbican Centre.

Telling Your Stories was renewed for a further year in July 2016, with £49,107 agreed as a Strategic Initiative to produce a further 10 films.

Previous years’ films can be viewed on the City Bridge Trust YouTube channel, and also here.
