Established in 2012 by a partnership of leading infrastructure organisations, Inspiring Impact is a UK-wide programme to help charities and funders plan, measure and review their impact. It is designed to benefit organisations of all sizes and evaluation capabilities, helping them to learn from and develop their work. Monitoring and evaluation skills are judged to be especially important at a time when charities and funders are called on to articulate the difference they make to their stakeholders, and as they judge how best to use limited resources. The Inspiring Impact partnership is co-ordinated by New Philanthropy Capital (NPC).
Work on Inspiring Impact to date has included the development of an extensive library of free online resources, and the creation of a self-assessment tool, Measuring Up! Usage surveys indicate that site visitors find the webpages accessible and engaging, and that they help organisations make improvements to their impact practice. NPC is now starting to promote Inspiring Impact to smaller organisations via local and sectoral networks. NPC is recruiting up to 60 voluntary sector partners to extend the programme benefits to their membership. Along with continued development of the programme’s website and a ‘champions’ network, Inspiring Impact is working to improve practice across the sector.
Many of the organisations involved in Inspiring Impact are well-regarded by City Bridge Trust. The programme has developed a good resource base and engaged front-line charities, infrastructure and funders to promote impact assessment in an accessible manner. Although Inspiring Impact’s remit is UK-wide, the Trust is pleased to support the work taking place in Greater London with a grant of £45,000 over three years agreed in July 2016.
The programme is something to which the Trust will sign-post its own applicants and grantees, and is well-aligned with our current focus on voluntary sector skills development. For more information, please visit the Inspiring Impact website.
