Transition Funding

Interim funding for eligible organisations for up to two years

City Bridge Trust’s Transition Funding programme can provide interim funding for eligible organisations for up to two years. The maximum grant is £50,000 per annum.

Eligible organisations are those that would normally be able to apply for other, specific funding strands from City Bridge Trust, which are among those currently paused due to Covid-19. and under review.

If you have any questions, please email citybridgetrust@cityoflondon.gov.uk or call us on 020 7332 3710.

Transition Funding programme strands

The Transition Funding programme will accept applications under existing criteria on the following funding strands, which are currently paused.

From July 2022, some of these funding strands will no longer be paused. They will reopen, with new or revised criteria to reflect our learning from the pandemic and our work to become a more equitable funder. Our interim Transition Funding grants for these strands will close at 5pm on 30th June 2022.

Three funding strands (Voice and Leadership, Greening and Growing, and Mental Health Support Services for people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness or are vulnerably housed) will remain paused and will not reopen at this stage. We will continue to accept applications for interim Transition Funding grants for these strands. We expect these strands to be ready to relaunch in late 2022 or early 2023.

Funding criteria for the Transition Funding programme

  • All City Bridge Trust’s existing funding criteria. Please see Who we fund and Grant-making FAQs.
  • Funding is available for two years, for a maximum of £50,000 per annum.
  • Grants can be made for core or project costs, following our usual guidelines.
  • Each year of the grant cannot be worth more than 50% of the organisation’s annual income in that year
  • The applying organisation’s annual income must be at least £20,000. For income below this, you may be able to apply to our Small Grants programme.
  • Whenever a funding strand which is paused is re-opened, it will be removed from this Transition Funding arrangement and any new criteria will apply.
  • If you have already applied for Transition Funding, and a strand reopens before we have decided whether your application is approved, you will be able to choose whether to keep your application as-is or move it over to the relevant strand in order to increase the amount or length of the grant. This choice will not affect the decision on the application
  • There is no guarantee of continuation funding at the end of a Transition Funding grant. Applicants will be able to review our website to see if their work meets our current eligibility criteria at that time, and whether there is a set amount of time to wait before you can apply again.
  • Organisations currently receiving a grant from City Bridge Trust are not eligible for Transition Funding (except for Eco-audits, Access Audits, London Community Response Fund Wave Five, Capital Grants and Stepping Stones)
  • Organisations receiving Transition Funding will not be eligible for a further Bridging Divides grant from City Bridge Trust until that grant is completed (except for Eco-audits, Access Audits, Capital Grants or Stepping Stones funding).
  • If your Transition Funding application is declined, the Trust’s usual re-application rules will apply.

Application process

To apply, please read the Apply Online page first. You will need to complete our Eligibility Quiz, to access our application form.

Please read the guidance notes on this page and for the strand you wish to apply for (which is linked in the descriptions of the strands above).  Please also refer to our Who we fund page and our Grant-making FAQs.

A Funding Manager will be appointed to assess your application and they may contact you for further information.

Whilst we cannot guarantee turnaround times, we will endeavour to respond within four to six months. We will notify you whether you are successful in your application or not.

We will undertake an equity review throughout our Transition Funding – monitoring where applications are coming from, where funding is being awarded, and how we can do better at reaching and engaging communities which are especially disadvantaged and/or marginalised.
