Life After Stroke Awards 2006

The annual Life After Stroke Awards, organised by the Stroke Association, were presented at a gala luncheon at Claridges in central London on 8 June. Pat Edwards, PA to Bridge House Trust's Chief Grants Officer, attended the event and has provided this report.

'I was very lucky to be part of this amazing occasion, together with the Bridge House Trust's Grants Committee Chairman, Mr William Fraser; Grants Committee Member, Mr William Dove and the Chief Grants Officer, Clare Thomas.

'The Stroke Association formally recognised and celebrated achievements of people of all ages who have shown tremendous courage in rebuilding their lives following a stroke. Importantly, the awards also acknowledged the work of carers and others, including corporate and trust supporters who show true commitment and compassion helping those affected by this devastating condition.

'Bridge House Trust was honoured with the Trust Supporter Award and the Chairman was pleased to accept it. Since 2001 the Trust has pledged £136,000 to the Stroke Association's services in London. The most recent grant was for £74,000 to provide support services to young stroke survivors (under 55 years old) in East London.

'The awards ceremony began after a most enjoyable lunch and was hosted by Dr Mike Smith. Presenters of the awards included writer Sue Townsend, actresses Prunella Scales and Lynda Bellingham and artist Tony Hart'
