Capital Age Festival
2008
The second annual
Capital Age
Festival took place at the Royal Festival Hall on 11 July,
celebrating the creativity, experience and imagination of older
Londoners. Building on the success of last year's event, this was a
stunning festival of new performance and participation work.
The festival was extremely popular with over 3,000 people
attending throughout the afternoon. The programme included an
exciting array of performances from the Matt Ross Jazz Quintet, the
Hoxton Singers and 80 year old rhythm tap dancer Will Gaines.
Capital Age Festival 2008 was also part of Big Dance 2008, a
week-long celebration of all dance styles and forms which took
place from 5-13 July. Big Dance aims to get as many people dancing
as possible in both the lead up and during the week itself, and
then encourages them to keep dancing all year round. Capital Age
Festival's contribution to this week was The Big Chair Dance, which
involved around 200 older people performing choreographed
pieces.
The City Bridge Trust supported the Capital Age Festival with a
two year grant of £20,000 under our
Improving Services for Older People programme.
