New grant award to Refugee Action Kingston
City Bridge Trust Chairman, Billy Dove, MBE JP, presented
Refugee Action
Kingston with a cheque to support its English classes for
refugees when he visited on 6th February. The grant of
£126,000 will enable it to develop its Building Bridges project by
running additional classes to help refugees gain skills and
confidence to integrate effectively in the community.
Refugee Action Kingston was established in 1991 to support
refugees in the Royal Borough of Kingston and surrounding boroughs
to assist with their resettlement within the community. As
well as running English and Computer classes, it provides advice
and information on immigration, welfare benefits and housing;
health and education advocacy services and a range of social
activities
Billy Dove said:
“City Bridge Trust is delighted to support this
project. As an ex-teacher, I was pleased to see such a busy
classroom on my visit with three classes taking English
lessons. Learning English is such a vital skill for refugees
and will be a pathway to education training and
employment.”
