Wellbeing at Toynbee Hall
Published: 3 October 2011
City Bridge Trust Chairman, Billy Dove, MBE JP, joined
Toynbee Hall to
celebrate Older People’s Week and to announce a grant of £100,000
for a new wellbeing service for older people in Tower Hamlets and
the Square Mile.
The new service, which aims to improve the overall health and
welfare of older people, will include a financial health check
along with physical activities, discussion groups and personal
care. It is hoped that the new provision will reach people
not currently receiving these crucial services, including those
with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
Billy Dove said:
“Having worked and lived at Toynbee Hall I have seen first-hand
the services that they provide to local people in east
London. Thankfully, older people are living longer and the
Wellbeing Service will help the over-75’s enjoy active, independent
and health lives and crucially, have a choice about how they
live.”
Those attending the launch were entertained by Connaught Opera,
which provides concerts for older and disabled people, including
those with mental illness, in order to enhance their quality of
life and self esteem.
