Green funders at the Guildhall

Published: 13 October 2011

On 10 October, the City Bridge Trust welcomed the Environmental Funders Network to the Guildhall for its Autumn meeting.  Around 35 representatives of trusts and foundations heard presentations from Andy Atkins, Chief Executive of Friends of the Earth and Shlomo Dowen, Head of UK Without Incineration Network (UK-WIN).  Both spoke on the inter-connection between local activism, national policy and campaigning work and international co-operation.  The common message was that each level is informed by and responds to the others, whether in a large structure such as Friends of the Earth or a much smaller organisation like UK-WIN.

Volunteers on the ground are the lifeblood of all campaigning organisations such as these, but local groups need support and advice from the centre, but are essential in providing the case material on which the national body can campaign and lobby those in positions of authority, seeking to effect real change.
